Teahupoo

Handprinted original linocut print (my first reduction linocut print) of a wave.

Named ‘Teahupoo’ - supposedly the most dangerous wave in the world, this piece captures the many textures, layers and shapes created by the edges of the ocean. It is printed in two of my favourite colours of blue - a neutral grey/blue sky which is almost a duck-egg shade and a slightly more vibrant neutral teal wave.

The print is made by hand carving the design into linoleum using traditional Japanese printmaking tools, rolling oil-based ink onto the lino and taking an impression onto paper by passing it through my etching press. The paper is Fabriano Rosaspina printmaking paper, heavyweight 285gsm.

Each print is editioned and signed as part of a limited edition run of eight prints.

This piece was created and designed by printmaker Sophia Luna in her home studio in the historical city of York.
